Walk in the Park - Sponsored Event for Diabetes UK

This 3 mile sponsored walk in aid of Diabetes UK took place on 18th June (Father’s Day). This annual event raises money for Diabetes UK and, as last year, took place in Farnham Park. There was a good turn out and a lovely atmosphere where young and old came together to support Diabetes UK. The organisers estimated that the total raised was a fantastic £15,000!

After the walk we had a picnic and then Cheryl’s husband Ron organised a game of baseball. Despite having trouble grasping the rules, we still had a great time!

Have a look at the photos on the website or the Butterflies notice board at the Frimley Children’s Centre.

Attack of the Hormones

We all know how a growth spurt can increase insulin requirements but I was surprised how much my daughters needed to increase since puberty was added into the equation. Just before Christmas her requirements dipped to 4,8,12,22. Only two weeks later she needed 24,14,14,34!

As you can imagine it was very hard to keep up with the necessary increases and we had a lot of high numbers. We then had a plateau for a few weeks and then had to start cutting down very quickly due to hypos. We are starting to increase the dose again and this time I’ll be ready to up the dose massively if that is what is required. Has anyone else out there had a similar experience or got any advice to offer?

FUN DAY – Saturday September 30th
Lightwater Leisure Centre

Following the success of the previous Fun Day at Wavell School, we have arranged another event which will be run by ‘Club Energy’. There will be lots of organised games and things to do, with prizes for the children, and a bar and viewing gallery for the adults! Parents are asked to stay and the bar will be open.

Butterflies is happy to fund this event for the children but we will need to know numbers, so if you are interested in coming along, please contact Cheryl Commans to book your place(s). Thank You. Unfortunately we have to limit this event to children aged 5-12. There will be two groups, 5-8’s and 9-12’s.

Christmas Bowling and Lunch Party –
November 26th

Yes, we know that Summer has only just arrived but we need to book our Butterflies Christmas Event! The previous bowling event was very well attended and everyone enjoyed themselves so we thought we’d do it again!

The price is £17.50 which includes 2 games of bowling and a buffet lunch with soft drinks. Butterflies is happy to subsidise this event to £7.50 per person but we will need a deposit for you to secure your place. Please contact Cheryl Commans by 1st August so we can book this event. Thank You.

And finally...

We have tried to offer a variety of activities for both children and adults to get together, have fun and to share their experiences about living with diabetes.
I hope you will come along and enjoy these events. Please let us know if you have any ideas of future social events. Thank You
